Misfit items

Misfit items are other household items that don’t fit into the other categories.

We collect:

  • Aluminium Coffee Capsules (click here for instructions)

  • Batteries

  • Beer clips

  • Blister packs

  • Books (in sellable condition)

    Books must be in English, have all pages and no handwritten notes. Max. 5 books per pickup.

  • Bottles and cans

    Eligible in the container deposit scheme

  • Cookware*

  • Corflutes*

  • Cosmetic, hair care or skin care packaging

    Any brand, just make sure it's empty. (No shampoo/conditioner/soap bottles.)

  • Disposable cups

    NO lids

  • DVDs and CDs

    No empty covers. They are either recycled or donated if in sellable condition.

  • Eyewear*

  • Lightbulbs, fluorescent tubes

  • Medicine*

  • Packaged food

    no traces of alcohol, unopened. Must not expire soon.

  • Plastic bread tags

  • Plastic plant pots*

  • Polystyrene*

  • Printer cartridges

  • Sealed paint (max. 2L)

  • Single use contact cases*

  • Smoke alarms

  • Reusable water bottles*

What we don’t collect:

  • Bean bag balls/beans

  • Empty DVD/CD covers

  • Food grade polystyrene

  • Scrap metal

  • Shaving foam cans

  • Soft foam

  • Wood

What happens once you collect them?

Misfits are named accordingly, as they go to many different locations. For example:

  • Aluminium coffee capsules are recycled through the Nespresso recycling scheme.

  • Books, toys etc. are donated to Australian Red Cross and local Op Shops.

  • Batteries are recycled through B-Cycle, Australia's nationwide battery stewardship scheme. 95% of a battery can be recycled.

  • Plastic bread tags are recycled in SA to make homewares, raising funds to buy wheelchairs for disadvantaged people through Aussie Bread Tags For Wheelchairs.
