Spark hope with your empty candle containers

Unfortunately, a significant number of candles come in single-use containers, contributing to the staggering 4 million candles sold each year in Australia, with containers that cannot be easily recycled.

CandleXChange are on a mission to change this narrative. We are excited to announce our new initiative that not only addresses the environmental impact of discarded candle containers but also brings light and hope to survivors of domestic violence and refugees as they embark on the journey of setting up new homes.

Why Candle Containers Matter:

The majority of candle containers sold in Australia are made of tempered glass, a material that poses challenges for recycling plants in the country. Unlike traditional glass, the tempered glass used in candle containers is not accepted in regular recycling bins. This results in a significant environmental burden as these containers often end up in landfills.

Our Initiative:

RecycleSmart is now collecting brand new or clean containers in good condition to be donated to CandleXChange. We believe that every container, whether made of glass or ceramic, can be given a second life.

CandlexChange have already collected 1500 used candle containers, which have been cleaned, refilled, and transformed into gifts for survivors of domestic violence and refugees starting anew. Some of the recipients of the program include ReLove, Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter, Baptist Care Hope Street and Lou’s Place.

Guidelines for Donations:

To ensure that your donations can be utilised, please follow these guidelines:

  • Acceptable Containers: We accept clean, undamaged containers made of glass or ceramic. Containers with burns, stains, chips, or soot marks cannot be accepted.

  • Cleaning Process: Before donating, please remove all wax and labels from the containers. To clean your container, either use hot water and wipe out the remaining wax or place it in the freezer for 20 minutes to easily pop out the wax. Dispose of the wax in the bin, not down the drain. Finish the cleaning process with a wash in warm soapy water or in the dishwasher.

  • Environmental Responsibility: Let's work together to minimise our environmental impact. Be cautious when cleaning your containers, and dispose of wax properly to ensure it does not go down the drain.

By donating to CandleXChange, you're not only helping us recycle and repurpose, but you're also shining a light of hope into the lives of survivors and refugees starting fresh. It's not just about practical items; it's about giving them a little piece of resilience and positivity.
